So far in Language Arts this year, we have been very busy. We have studied story vocabulary, worked on writing, and are well on our way to creating some very impressive language arts notebooks! This week we are starting literature circles for class novels, For our literature circles, students will be assigned a section of their class novel to read and a job to complete every Monday. These jobs include: illustrator, connector, vocabulary enhance, passage finder, and character captain. On Thursdays, we will have group novel discussions where students will share their work and discuss that week's reading. Currently, one group is reading Mr. Popper's Penguins by Richard and Florence Atwater, and the other group is reading Jaguar by Roland Smith.
We have also been working on spelling through a program called Spelling City. I will assign students a spelling list and a spelling activity each week. These activities will be due before the spelling test on Thursdays. Students can also study their list at home at the following link: www.spellingcity.com/THlavnicka/ We are currently on List #2 for each color and will have a test on Thursday, October 8th, 2015. I will list students and their spelling list color below.
